Rank Calculator
The Rank Calculator is a tool designed to evaluate and calculate your duel rank based on various in-game statistics. By inputting key factors from your duel — such as turns taken, fusions performed, cards used, and victory condition — you can determine your rank and assess your performance. Understanding your rank is essential because it not only reflects your skill level but also determines the rewards and card drops you receive after each duel. Since different ranks unlock different drop pools, knowing how your actions during a duel influence your ranking lets you farm specific cards more effectively.
How To Get A-TECs by GFC_Fast A-TEC (without a trap card) by GFC_Cómo Hacer TEC y Obtener MEGAMORPH | Guía Definitiva Forbidden Memories by se3cretThe standard A-TEC setup requires meeting the following conditions during a single duel. This combination consistently produces a score between 10 and 19, landing you in A-TEC territory:
| Requirement | Target | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fusions | 15 | Each fusion animation counts — a chain of 4 cards counts as 3 fusions |
| Effective Attacks | 4 | Your attack monster destroys opponent's attack monster with battle damage. Direct attacks do NOT count |
| Face-down Plays | 1 | Set any card face-down — monster, magic, or trap |
| Magic Activations | 1 | Use any magic card during the duel |
| Equip Usages | 1 | Equip animation must play for it to count |
| Trap Activations | 1 | Must be triggered by opponent attacking into it — cannot activate manually |
| Cards Used | 37 | Deck counter shows 3 or fewer cards remaining before winning |
| Turns | 9 | Opponent's deck has 27 or fewer cards remaining (assuming they didn't fuse) |
| Life Points | Under 7000 | Let the opponent damage you early by playing weak monsters in attack position |
If you do not have a trap card, 2 Defensive Wins can substitute for the trap activation — but this does NOT work against Pegasus or the final four duelists (Heishin 2nd, Seto 3rd, DarkNite, Nitemare), as they can see face-down cards and will only attack if they know they'll win.
Fill your deck with dragons and thunders to chain fusions efficiently into Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon while meeting the fusion count. Use Fake Trap to combine a trap activation with a free effective attack.
Use the Rank Calculator above to experiment with A-TEC combinationsYour duel rank is determined by a hidden score that starts at 50 points at the beginning of each duel. Every action you take during the duel adds or subtracts from this score. The final score determines your rank using the following scale:
| Score Range | Rank |
|---|---|
| 90–99 | S POW |
| 80–89 | A POW |
| 70–79 | B POW |
| 60–69 | C POW |
| 50–59 | D POW |
| 40–49 | D TEC |
| 30–39 | C TEC |
| 20–29 | B TEC |
| 10–19 | A TEC |
| 0–9 | S TEC |
Scores above 99 or below 0 are clamped to 99 and 0 respectively. The 10-point difference between each rank tier means small adjustments to your playstyle can push you into a different rank — and a different drop pool.
What affects your score
Nine categories contribute to your final score. Victory condition gives +2 for Total Annihilation, -40 for Attrition, or +40 for an Exodia win. Finishing in 0–4 turns gives +12 points, while 33+ turns costs -12. Effective attacks (destroying an attack-position monster) add +4 if you make 0–1, but cost -4 if you make 20+. Defensive wins, face-down plays, fusions, equip magic, magic activations, and trap activations all progressively penalize higher counts — encouraging focused playstyles. Using 0–8 cards gives +15, while 37+ cards costs -7. Ending with 8000 LP gives +6, while under 100 LP costs -7.
Use the calculator above to experiment with different strategies and see exactly how each action affects your final rank.
POW (Power) and TEC (Technical) are the two duel rank classifications in Forbidden Memories. They determine which drop pool you access after a victory and are calculated based on the same hidden score — the higher the score, the more POW-oriented the rank. As your score drops through technical actions (fusions, magic, traps), the rank shifts toward TEC.
POW ranks reward quick, aggressive duels — finish in few turns with effective attacks, minimal fusions, and high remaining LP. POW drop pools tend to contain stronger monsters and are ideal for farming high-ATK cards like Meteor B. Dragon from Meadow Mage.
TEC ranks reward technical play using magic cards, trap activations, fusions, and defensive wins. TEC drop pools tend to contain stronger spells, traps, and equips — essential for farming cards like Megamorph (Pegasus) and Raigeki (Shadi).
For most farming, A-TEC is the sweet spot. S-TEC and A-TEC share identical drop pools for every duelist, but A-TEC takes roughly 9 minutes per duel compared to 20–30 minutes for S-TEC. POW farming is best when you need monster drops and can finish duels in 3–4 turns.
Browse duelist drop tables to see which rank each card requiresStarchips are earned based on your duel rank and can be spent in the Password Shop to redeem specific cards. The payout is symmetric between POW and TEC — higher ranks always give more starchips:
| Score | Rank | Starchips |
|---|---|---|
| 90–99 | S POW | 5 |
| 80–89 | A POW | 4 |
| 70–79 | B POW | 3 |
| 60–69 | C POW | 2 |
| 50–59 | D POW | 1 |
| 40–49 | D TEC | 1 |
| 30–39 | C TEC | 2 |
| 20–29 | B TEC | 3 |
| 10–19 | A TEC | 4 |
| 0–9 | S TEC | 5 |
Since premium password cards cost up to 999,999 starchips, relying on starchips alone is impractical — at S-rank, that would require roughly 200,000 perfect duels. Think of starchips as a supplementary resource and focus on farming drops directly.
A-TEC is a Technical duel rank (score of 10–19) that shares its drop pool with S-TEC for every duelist in the game. The crucial difference is that A-TEC is achievable in roughly 9 turns and 9 minutes per duel, while S-TEC requires decking out the opponent — a process that takes 20–30 minutes.
This makes A-TEC the most time-efficient way to access high-value TEC drop pools. It is especially popular for farming Pegasus, who drops game-defining equips like Megamorph, Bright Castle, Dragon Treasure, and Widespread Ruin from his TEC pool. Other prime A-TEC targets include Shadi (Raigeki), Kaiba (Widespread Ruin, Crush Card), and Isis (high-quality spell/trap pool).
Learn the full A-TEC strategy in the Card Viewer guideThe victory condition has a major impact on your score:
- Total Annihilation (standard win by reducing opponent's LP to 0): +2 points
- Attrition (opponent runs out of cards to draw): -40 points — this is what pushes you into S-TEC territory
- Exodia (assembling all 5 Exodia pieces in your hand): +40 points — the single largest positive modifier in the game
An Exodia win gives such a massive bonus (+40) that it can push you into S POW territory even with heavy penalties from other categories. In practice, Exodia wins are rare and inconsistent to set up, but they are the only way to offset an otherwise heavily-penalized duel. Attrition wins are the intended path to S-TEC: the -40 penalty, combined with extensive deck usage (37+ cards = -7), defensively-oriented play, and technical actions, reliably drops the score below 10.
The Rank Calculator lets you simulate any duel outcome without playing the game. Here is how to use it effectively:
- Pick your target duelist and check which rank they need — visit their page to see which drop pool contains the card you want.
- Set the calculator values to match your intended playstyle. For POW farming, keep fusions low (0–4), turns low (0–4), and aim for high remaining LP. For A-TEC farming, enter the standard A-TEC targets above and adjust to find the minimum requirements.
- Adjust one variable at a time. Since the score ranges are tight (10 points per tier), small changes matter — try reducing fusions from 15 to 10 and see if you still stay in A-TEC range.
- Check the starchip count at the bottom of the result. Higher ranks give more starchips, which helps you plan password shop purchases over time.
Once you have found a viable strategy, save or screenshot your setup and replicate it during actual duels. Over time you will internalize what each rank requires and be able to adjust mid-duel based on your draw.
